Crop Diagnostic Tools

Below are some useful tools for identifying and diagnosing crop problems. This is only a selection. Please let us know of other useful tools we should add.

Remember, identification is only the first step. Similar symptoms can have different causes, and multiple problems may be involved. Where important management decisions are involved, verify the diagnosis before acting.

AI-assisted identification

AI photo recognition is increasingly useful for identifying plants, weeds, insects, and some crop diseases.
It can provide a useful starting point, but a photograph alone may not reveal the actual cause of a crop problem.

  • General identification: Take a clear photograph and use tools such as Google Lens or Apple Visual Look Up.
  • Plant identification: Pl@ntNet can help identify plants and weeds from photographs.
  • Crop diagnosis: PlantVillage Nuru uses AI to help identify selected crop pests and diseases.

Always verify important diagnoses and recommendations using a credible technical source or local expert.
